Student FAQs

Registering and joining a class

Where can I find my access code? What does it look like?

Your access code may be on a card, in a book or in an email. It has 12 numbers and the format looks like this: 1234-5678-9012.

My access code doesn't work, why not?

You may have registered already and used your access code.

If you see the error message ‘This access code has already been used’, it means that the access code has already been used.

If you see the error message ‘The code you have entered is incorrect. Please try again’, it means that the access code was entered incorrectly. Retry, checking the number carefully.

Please note that student access codes are single-use, therefore you will not be able to register a code twice.

If you bought your book second-hand or borrowed from a library, unfortunately, you will not have access to online materials using this access code.

If you bought your book under the impression it was new, we recommend that you return it to the shop you bought it from for a refund or exchange.

If you would like to purchase another access code, visit http://elt.oup.com/

Why I am not able to use my access code for Effective Academic Writing on the platform?

Effective Academic Writing is not available on www.oxfordlearn.com. Instead, you will be able to use the online materials via the dedicated Effective Academic Writing website: www.effectiveacademicwriting.com.

How do I join my teacher’s class?

You will need a Student joining code from your teacher/school to join their online class.  If you have the Student joining code, go to Joining a class.

Do I have to join my teacher’s class?

No, you can use the course for self-study. If you use this option, your teacher won’t be able to see your marks or progress.

If you start completing exercises as self-study, and then you join a class later, the work you had done independently will not be visible to the teacher and you will need to start the course again.

What is a Student joining code? Where do I get it? What does it look like?

Your teacher may have given you a joining code to join your online class.

1.On the homepage, click Join class next to the My courses section.

2.Enter the Student joining code you have been given.

3.Enter your User ID if you have one

Ask your teacher for a code if you do not have one. If you do not have a joining code, you can enter one later when your teacher gives it to you.

A joining code has 12 numbers and looks like this: 123456789123.

My licence has expired. How do I use the course again?

To use the course again, you will need a new access code. You do not need to buy a new book. There are two ways to buy a new access code:

As an access code card from bookshops and online retailers.

As a standalone code, which are available for purchase on our website http://elt.oup.com.

To enter a new code and renew your access

1.Log in at www.oxfordlearn.com.

2.Click the Renew licence link under the course title.

3.Enter your new access code.

4.Click the Continue button.

My teacher told me I should have received an email with login details but I have not, what should I do?

Please check your Spam/Junk folder for the email address.  If it is not there, contact your teacher and ask for the details.

What is a User ID?

If you have a student number or ID from your school, you can enter it here. If you do not have a User ID, you can skip it.

What are the system requirements I need in order to access www.oxfordlearn.com?

I completed my exercises but my teacher tells me they cannot see my grades? What did I do wrong?
